TSC Promotion Interviews for 3,313 Positions Ends on Friday With Grades C3, C4, and C5 Teachers

Teachers from all over the nation eagerly gathered at various venues to take part in the highly anticipated Teachers Service Commission (TSC) promotion interviews.

This rigorous exercise, which began earlier this week, is scheduled to conclude tomorrow on Friday.

Today’s interviews witnessed the participation of a substantial number of Grade D1 to D2 assistant principals from secondary schools.

On the final day of the program, which is Friday, teachers from Grades C3, C4, and C5 will gather for the interviews.

This group primarily consists of assistant principals and senior teachers from various primary schools.

These educators will have the opportunity to present themselves before a commission composed of County Directors, Deputy Directors, and sub-county directors.

The TSC re-advertised the positions on May 25, 2023, after teachers inexplicably failed to exhibit interest.

The teachers were subsequently given nine days to submit online applications for 3,313 Principal, Deputy Principal, and Deputy Head Teacher positions in secondary and primary institutions.

Although the promotions were initially advertised between January and March of this year, there was an unexpected lack of qualified teachers expressing interest.

In an effort to encourage more participation, the TSC was compelled to launch a second campaign, accompanied by modifications that relaxed certain requirements.

Despite the TSC’s request for a budget of Ksh3 billion for teacher promotions, the commission was allocated Ksh1.1 billion in the current budget.

This financial support reflects the significance and priority given to the professional growth and advancement of teachers within the education sector.

Concerns have been raised, however, as to whether the Commission will meet its goal of promoting a total of 12,634 teachers during the next 2023/2024 Financial Year, which begins on 1 July 2023.

The TSC’s estimated budget included Ksh600 million to promote 4,595 primary school teachers from C1 to C2, Ksh1 billion to promote 4,750 diploma teachers from C2 to C3, Ksh400 million to promote 2,637 graduate teachers from C3 to C4, and Ksh175,03 million to promote 652 graduate teachers from D3 to D4.
