TSC Concludes Hiring Of Intern Teachers, Begins Deployment.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has completed the recruitment of intern teachers for placement in junior secondary institutions.

TSC had advertised 20, 000 teacher internship posts (18,000 in Junior Secondary Schools and 2,000 in Primary Schools) to support the implementation of competency-based curricula.

To be considered for recruitment, candidates had to meet specific requirements. These included being a Kenyan citizen, thereby establishing their nationality as a fundamental criterion.

Additionally, candidates had to have a minimum of a diploma in education and a notable academic achievement of at least a mean grade of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.

Furthermore, the academic bar extended to having secured a C+ (plus) grade in two teaching subjects during their KCSE examinations.

Candidates were expected to have their credentials officially recognized by being registered teachers with the Teachers Service Commission. This registration denoted their professional affiliation and validated their eligibility for participation in the internship program.

“By setting forth these prerequisites, the program aimed to ensure that selected candidates were not only well-qualified academically but also formally recognized by the education governing body, thus ensuring a certain standard of competence and professionalism among the interns.”

Ready to be Deployed

Fredrick Nganga, director of the TSC Murang’a County, noted that 635 newly recruited teachers in the county will be dispersed to 514 public primary schools that house junior secondary schools.

On Wednesday in his office, Ng’ang’a informed KNA that the newly hired instructors are expected to begin reporting to their assigned schools on September 1.

After reporting to their respective areas of work, he said, the teachers will endure a brief training and orientation.

Schools with one stream will receive a teacher, while those with two or more streams will receive an additional teacher. After the reporting, TSC will determine if there is a teacher shortage in the junior high schools.

Initially, the TSC recruited and assigned 788 teachers to junior secondary schools in Murang’a County.

“As we deploy the teachers, we are also considering subject combinations needed in respective schools,” he added.
