KPSEA 2023 Exams Marked, Results to be Released to Schools In January.

The head of Kenya’s National Examinations Council, David Njengere, recently explained that they focused on grading the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) before the grade six Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA). This decision was made to give 1.4 million students enough time to get ready for high school.

Njengere assured parents that the KPSEA results are almost ready and will be released soon. During the announcement of the completed KCPE exams on November 23, he outlined that there are three types of reports: one for individual learners, another for specific schools, and a national report.

In contrast to the lively release ceremonies for the KCPE, the unveiling of KPSEA results will be more low-key. Students were tested in five subjects: Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, Social Studies, and Creative Arts. Integrated Science covered Science and Technology, Agriculture, Home Science, and Physical Health and Education. Social Studies and Creative Arts were combined into one test, including Social Studies, religious studies (CRE/IRE/HRE), Arts and Crafts, and Music.

KPSEA results 2023. This year’s group, around 1.4 million students, is the last to take the KCPE as Kenya shifts to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in primary schools. The move to KPSEA exams aligns with the goals of the new curriculum.

Speaking on this shift, Joe Nyutu, Chair of the Senate Education Committee, wished the students well. He mentioned that CBC allows assessing learners at various levels, not just academically, and it can address employment issues.

MP Julius Melly, Chair of the National Assembly Education Committee, acknowledged challenges with KPSEA but assured that Parliament is working to ensure the integrity of national exams. He emphasized that the Ministry is addressing issues raised by the Public Inquiry on Education Committee.

As the country eagerly awaits the KPSEA results, this marks the second exam under CBC, signaling a new era in education. The KPSEA 2022 exams started on November 28 and ended on November 30, with a total of 1,253,577 students participating. The education sector is preparing for the complete adoption of the Competency-Based Curriculum.
