Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Job Vacancy for Project Manager

Under the project “Solution for increasing farm system resilience and carbon sinks on sandy soils, NCF 8 Project No NCF-C8-0507” funded by Nordic Climate Facility (NCF), JKUATES in collaboration with The
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and SWRT Solutions would like to recruit a project assistant. The project assistant will:
● Oversee the setting-up and maintenance of trials on 20 farms in Mtito Andei, Makueni county
● Coordinate the agronomic management on the farms
● Undertake required monitoring of dynamic soil and crop processes
● Ensure proper working and data capture from all the installed equipment (weather station, soil
moisture meters and temperature equipment, irrigation systems)
● Lead the sampling of greenhouse gases and coordinate their safe keeping and delivery to
Mazingira Labs.
● Record data, maintain a project database and regularly submit reports on changes in soil and crop
growth variables collected in demonstration plots
● Undertake planning and implementation of stakeholder engagement workshops and field days
● Learn the theoretical basis and practical application of the sub-surface water retention technology (SWRT).
● Lead the team of membrane installers and contribute to the development of SWRT business.
Preferred skills or experience
● Background in agriculture, soil and water management, agricultural engineering or related
disciplines
● Experience with field data measurement
● Organized, meticulous with a pro-active attitude
● Knowledge of local language would be an added advantage.
