The 2023 form one placement results will be announced in January 2023. The 2022 KCPE candidates are expected to join secondary schools after the release of the placement results by the new Cabinet Secretary in charge of Education starting February 2023.

All 2022 KCPE candidates living in urban slums across the country who managed to score over 400 marks will automatically get placed in the national schools of their choice. Speaking this morning when he released the results of the 2022 KCPE Form One placement exercise, the new CS says this year’s Form 1 selection was conducted digitally; KCPE candidates to access school joining instructions via the Education ministry’s website.

More than 30,000 students were selected to join national schools in the country.

The Ministry of Education has released a list of the most preferred schools by the 2022 form ones.

Nanyuki High leads the 10 most preferred schools. Nanyuki High School was for the second time the topmost preferred school for a majority of KCPE candidates as highlighted in the list below.

A total of 156,003 candidates selected the school yet the institution has only 480 capacity in form one.

Some 38,797 KCPE candidates are selected to join national schools every year.

According to the CS, 214,960 other KCPE candidates are placed in extra county schools while 258,456 are enrolled in the third tier of county schools.

Another 726,311 students are usually enrolled in sub-county schools while 2,045 get placed in special needs schools.

Last year, retired CS Magoha said more than 800 students from informal settlements are among those selected to join national and extra county schools.

Magoha further said that a big number of candidates did not receive proper guidance and direction when choosing schools.

“This resulted in some schools attracting far many applicants against their capacities.”

“This scenario can be avoided if candidates are offered relevant guidance during the selection process by teachers and parents,” he noted.
