TSC To Deploy 36,341 P1 Teachers - Requirements And Qualifications Date

Education ministry has revealed that it is working to ensure that new infrastructural facilities are set up to accommodate the alarming numbers of students who are going to join secondary schools in the 2023 looming double intake.

In a projection viewed towards achieving the 2023 double intake, tsc is also planning to deploy over 36,341 primary school teachers who have acquired higher qualifications will be deployed to teach at lower secondary schools to meet the staffing needs following the roll-out of the new curriculum.

The tea teachers who will be deployed to teach in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) include the P1 teachers who hold Diplomas,

Higher Diplomas,

undergraduate Degrees,

Postgraduate Diplomas,

Masters and PhDs.

This process of deploying Primary Teacher Education (PTE) graduate teachers has started.

The Commission (TSC) has begun this process and is set to deploy more than 1000 P1 teachers to teach in secondary schools across the country.

Over the last two years, the teachers employer has promoted PTE teachers to secondary school tutors. In 2019 the Teacher Service Commission promoted 1000 teachers and in 2020 the commission promoted 1000 teachers.

2000 P1 teachers who were deployed earlier have received letters and they are now offering their services in secondary schools.

This Career Progression Guidelines for teachers (CPG) stipulate that the promoted P1 graduate teachers start at job grade C2 with a salary scale of 34,955 per month and will subject to promotion to job grade C3 after completion of three years in C2.

The commission qualification and guidelines for deployment of PTE teachers are as follows:

1.The applicant should have a P1 certificate;
2.The applicant should be a Kenyan citizen;
3.The applicant MUST be a holder of Bachelor’s Degree in education with two teaching subjects;
4.Must have a minimum mean grade of C+ in KCSE or its equivalent and a C+ in the two teaching subjects.
5.Must be employer by the Teacher Service Commission.

The commission has taken this move to reduce the burden on the secondary school teachers due to the 100 percent transition to.

TSC also reported that the PTE teachers are deployed competitively and the process is going to be fair to promote non-discrimination and equity.
