Portfolio Manager for an Investment Company in Mombasa, Kenya
Our client, an international investment company in Kenya is looking for a driven Portfolio Manager for their offices in Mombasa. The portfolio manager will be building up the portfolio of start-ups invested in, grow the start-ups together with the founders, enhance and manage the portfolio, and thereby contributing to creating jobs and creating sustainable businesses in East-Africa. Our client invests both cash and sweat equity in early stage tech start-ups, and are sincerely engaged in sustainable business development. They are well established in Mombasa and have a great network of highly esteemed partners such as IBM Kenya and SafariCom. The Successful candidates needs to have a genuine interest in impact investments, start-ups, and with a proven track record in building a profitable investment portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the investment portfolio
- Optimize and grow the start-ups and the overall portfolio
- Assess and select start-ups to invest in
- Evaluate performance of the portfolio companies
- Mentor and guide the portfolio companies
- Follow and assess market conditions and domestic and global developments
- Keep up with relevant investment news
- Raise capital and attract co-investors
- Mentor and guide the portfolio companies from an investor perspective, and evaluate performance
- Ensure compliance with investor disclosures, privacy laws, anti-money laundering requirements
- Participate in sales meetings and contract negotiations together with the start-ups
- Together with the Incubation Manager, attract mentors and manage the mentorship program
- Participate in strategy development and start-ups
Qualification:
- Master’s degree in MBA, Finance, Sales and Marketing or similar
- 5-10 years of relevant working experience in a similar role
- Experience as leader with defined results responsibility and HR responsibility
- Proven track record in growing investments portfolio with a good return on investment
- Experience in business development, sales, marketing, and negotiations
- Preferably knowledge of the tech start-up sector and international business
- Outstanding communication ability
- Pro-active, Systematic and Solution oriented
- Familiar with the Sustainable Development Goals and Impact investments
