The Nairobi Institute of Technology (N.I.T) is a privately owned and managed mid-level educational institution. It was established in 1997 and registered under section 5(2) education act Cap 2, Laws of Kenya. N.I.T is recognized by the Ministry of Education, Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS).
We are accredited by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) and our programmes approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). N.I.T has partnership with Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) and the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

Professional Certificate in Interior Design (N.I.T)
- Course details
For a long time, N.I.T has been receiving overwhelming high numbers of enquiries for a part time Interior Design class.
A considerable number of working professionals and entrepreneurs within and outside the building and construction sector were hungry for a course that would opportune them to venture into interior design.
Our Dean of Building and Construction studies, together with qualified professionals and experts in the areas of Interior Design worked on a curriculum that is now our very popular Professional Certificate in Interior Design.
This course aims to equip working professionals who are interested in the area of Interior Design with skills in Design, presentation and construction of interior building spaces.
Classes are conducted in our spacious design studios where our studio masters lecture and supervise all trainings conducted.
Our studio masters are vetted to meet teaching standards set by the commission for university education.
All students attend workshops and site visits to put in practice what is taught in the classroom set up.
For successful completion of the course, each student takes a three months supervised project, relevant to the areas of study. This project is supervised, examined and graded by one of our lecturers.
We continue to receive very positive reviews of the course content and its relevance to students who have completed the course.
Course Duration: Nine (9) months

Two to three years working experience in any field with a high motivation to enter the design field.

Diploma in Interior Design (N.I.T)
- Course details
This Diploma is one of our fastest growing courses. Interior Design is slowly becoming one of the most popular fields in the building and construction sector. Students who pursue this course naturally have an eye for aesthetics and are attentive to detail.
This Diploma is intended to equip students with knowledge and skills in design of building interior spaces .Students are taught how to team up with other design professionals to produce coordinated, harmonious interior spaces that are unified, pleasing to the eye, and appropriate to the activities to be pursued there. Interior designs are achieved with the use of color, texture, scale, proportion, lighting, furnishings, fixtures, and more.
Classes are conducted in our spacious design studios where our studio masters lecture and supervise all trainings conducted.
Our studio masters meet teaching standards set by the commission for university education.
All students attend workshops and site visits to put in practice what is taught in the classroom set up.
For successful completion of the course, each student must go through industrial attachment in relevant fields. This attachment is supervised and graded by one of our lecturers.
This Diploma is internally examined by N.I.T.
Course Duration: Two and a half (2 1/2) years
- Admission requirements
The minimum entry requirement for the Diploma in Interior Design is KCSE Mean grade C- or PASS in Craft Certificate course in Architecture, Building Construction or Art and Design or an approved equivalent qualification as determined by N.I.T.
