To meet the ever growing demand for higher education, Kibabii University through the Directorate of Open Distance and E-Learning (ODEL), has embraced innovative ways to provide flexible access to quality education through the integration of open, distance, e-learning and blended approaches in the delivery of its programmes. The directorate aims at according educational opportunities to learners who for some reason are not able to attend traditional classes on campus.

The Directorate of Open Distance and Electronic Learning (ODeL) headed by Dr. Alice Nambiro, organized a one day training to all CoDs on basic skill of managing online teaching and learning which was held on 22nd April2020 in Computer Lab ABC 212. The training involved Designing Self-Directed Online Courses and Assessments on Kibabii University E-learning platform and Using Video Conferencing facilities in Open and Distance learning. This training was essential to enable lecturers engage their students on their respective courses using E-learning during COVID-19 quarantine period.

Open Distance and E-Learning Director, Dr. Alice Nambiro attended a workshop on Policy Development for Technology-Enabled Learning at Kaimosi Friends University College on 25th and 26th November 2019. Workshop was facilitated by Dr. Sanjaya Mishra from Commonwealth of Learning.

The Directorate of Open Distance and Electronic Learning (ODeL) headed by Dr. Alice Nambiro, organized a three-day staff workshop themed “Instructional Design, Digital Content Development, Delivery and Management ” for School of Business and Economics (SOBE) staff and board members held on 6th – 8th November, 2019 at Kamadep Guest House, Kakamega. The training covered Designing Instructional materials for various learning Strategies, Proper utilization of Learning Management System for effective course management, and finally integrating various learning resources using Authoring tool.

Open Distance and Electronic Learning Directorate of Kibabii University vision is to provide flexible and innovative approaches to learning through utilization of technology and provision of effective learner support. We plan to facilitate delivery of Certificates, Diploma, Degree, Masters and PhD programs to our learners in various parts of the Country, East Africa Region and beyond.

Directorate of Open Distance and Electronic Learning (ODEL) conducted a one-day training on Digital Content Design for e-learning platform. The training was towards enhancing an interaction online learning material that covers well course content and learners needs. Dr. E. Masibo, COD Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Technology presented teaching strategies and methodologies while Dr. Peters Anselimo, Chairman Department of Information Technology discussed standard instructional design strategies. DVC (ASA), Prof. Solomon Shibairo made opening and closing remarks during the training.
