The Department offers programmes in Certificate, Diploma (Pre-service and Upgrading) and Higher Diploma. To produce competent health professionals through training and research, and provide consultancy services.

Department of Nursing Academic Programmes

Certificate Courses

Certificate in Enrolled Community Health Nursing 2 years

Entry Requirements

KCSE Mean grade of C-, C- in Kiswahili or English & Biology or Biological Sciences. D+ in any one of the following: Chemistry or Physical Science or Physics or Mathematics

Diploma Courses

Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (Upgrading from Enrolled Community Health Nurse 1½ year (full time)

Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (Upgrading from Enrolled Community Health Nursing 2 years (Distance Learning)

Entry Requirements

Certificate in Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nursing (KECHN) and registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (Upgrading from Enrolled Nurse /Midwife 2 years (Distance Learning)

Entry Requirements

Certificate in Enrolled Community Health Nursing or Certificate in Midwifery, Registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (Pre-service)

Kenya Registered Nursing Mental Health and Psychiatry Nursing

Kenya Registered Nurse

Kenya Registered Nurse/Midwifery (KRN/M)

Entry Requirements

KCSE minimum aggregate C with the following specific requirements: C in English or Kiswahili and Biology or Biological Sciences. C- in Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics / Physical Sciences.

Higher Diploma Courses

Critical Care Nursing 1 year

Peri-operative Nursing 1 year

Paediatric Nursing 1 year

Palliative Care (Distance learning 1 ½ year

Psychiatric Nursing 1 year

Ophthalmic Care Nursing 1 year

Nephrology 1 year

Family Health Nursing (Distance learning) 1 year

Kenya Registered Nurse Anesthetist 1 year

Geriatric Nursing 1 ½ year (Distance learning)

Entry Requirements for Higher Diploma Course

Diploma in Nursing or in Community Health Nursing (KRN/KRCHN), Diploma in Nursing (KRN/KRM). Registration by a Nursing Council of respective country is a must. Applicant must demonstrate ability to cope with academic work and research comparable to any Higher Diploma training institution.

At KMTC, we offer a wide range of courses, from Certificate, Diploma to Higher Diploma.

This wide range courses reflects the institution’s responsiveness to the needs of our nation. The ever rising number of admissions show the trust bestowed on us by the public and the aspirations of our valued clients, the students.

The courses have continuously grown — from a handful to more than 70 currently — to meet the changing needs of the country’s health care system. The introduction of new courses is in line with the College’s strategy to keep abreast with market changes and the needs of the global community.

How to Apply to Kenya Medical Training College – Department of Nursing

Applications:

All applications are ONLINE from the application portal on this website www.kmtc.ac.ke. The prospective candidates apply for admission into courses for each academic year for Regular or Parallel Category. The Regular category have subsidized fee with optional accommodation but no choice for campus while the parallel category have non subsidized fee, no accommodation option but have option for campuses choice in more than sixty five (65) campuses situated in different parts of the country depending on the courses.

Procedure:

  • Prospective candidates are expected to visit the applicants’ portal, read the advertisement to know the various courses and their specific entry requirements.
  • Candidates interested in making an application are advised to READ the application guidelines (preservice/Inservice) available on the application portal
  • Candidates are advised to follow the steps carefully given in the application guideline to the end to be sure of application success.
  • Take note that the application period has timelines as stipulated on the advertisement please observe them
