HOW KNEC WILL DETERMINE KCSE 2023 EXAMINERS’ PAY
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will not pay KCSE 2023 examiners the same amount of money even if the examiners marking a particular paper for instance English paper three will work for the same amount of days. This is because KCSE 2023 examiners are at liberty to work at their own pace once the coordination of the marking scheme is over. This therefore means that all the examiners marking over 60 different types of papers will receive a standardized pay amounting to Kshs. 150 per day is technically referred to as a coordination fee. This figure will be represented in the advance that Knec will pay the examiners once they complete the marking process before they depart from the marking centres. Knec will also reimburse examiners’ fares and other travel expenses incurred when travelling to and from the marking centres. Examiners from far-flung areas such as those currently stationed in the North Eastern region whose roads are currently impassable may receive a better perk from Knec due to the hardships they will encounter while trying to access the designated KNEC marking centres in 2023.
Even though KNEC will pay all the KCSE 2023 examiners a uniform advance of up to Kshs. 20, 000 by December 10, 2023, the rest of the money will be paid after the official release of the KCSE 2023 results before Christmas.
This is how KNEC will determine how much each KCSE 2023 examiner will be paid.
Basic Fee= Kshs 1, 100
Travel Expenses- 1500*2 (fare to and from)=Kshs. 3,000
Coordination Fee- 150*3 days Kshs. 450 per head
Payment rates per script- 300 scripts *77=Kshs. 23, 100
from the above figures, a KCSE 2023 examiner who will mark 300 candidates’ English paper three scripts will pocket a total of 25, 750.
POLITE NOTICE
Payments to all contracted professionals shall be taxed in accordance with the PAYE regulations/guidelines. Examiners will be charged a withholding tax of 5% for any payment above Kes. 24,000. Subsequently, only those who reach this threshold will be taxed.
Supervisors and invigilators will be paid during the month of December. The highest-paid Supervisor will be paid a total of Sh12,510 while the highest-paid invigilator will earn Sh9860.
