Information reaching our desk this morning is that all teachers who aided in the administration of last year’s KCSE Examination as invigilators and Supervisors are set to stuff their pockets after a significant period of patiently waiting! READ: KNEC CONTRACTED PROFESSIONALS PORTAL
This follows the Bomet Central Member of Parliament, Honorable Ronald Tonui’s inquiry over the delayed Teachers’ dues during a question session in parliament. Tonui is on record wondering why the Examinations Council failed to release the payment of the teachers’ pay on time while prioritizing other personnel involved in the same exercise! He observed, ” Every year the national examinations council fails to release the payment of these teachers on time while prioritizing other personnel, the cabinet secretary should come out and explain”
He wanted the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Professor Magoha, to commit as to when the dues would be released.
Delayed Pay
It is should be noted that teachers have been patiently waiting for the pay having completed their tasks successfully months ago. It is not lost on the public that the said national examination results (KCSE) were released weeks ago and as a matter of fact, the said candidates are now revising their courses on KUCCPS Student Portal in preparation for college and University Admissions! Unfortunately, the Council has delayed teachers’ pay this much. However, even though the officials failed to reveal the specific pay, sources from KNEC have confirmed that the national Examiner will commence paying early next week before the CS ( Education) Professor Magoha appears in parliament for questioning on the same issue.
Professor George Magoha is said to be appearing before the departmental Committee on education and research within two weeks to respond to the issues raised.

It also goes on record that the legislator, Honourable Tonui, called for a review of the emoluments awarded to teachers who Mann the national examinations siting that they had remained static for quite a long time yet the cost of living was on a spiraling trend! This he said given him being the current serving national treasurer for KUPPET- A Kenyan Teachers’ Union.
It is in the public glare that some of the primary school teachers have raised complaints of having not been paid as much as KNEC has paid teachers involved in the administration of the KCPE examinations months ago. Statistics from KNEC reveal that a total of 242,406 teachers were contracted by KNEC to help with the Supervision and marking of the 2021 national exams.
Some teachers involved in the exercise have been protesting on several platforms over the delayed payment. Quite a number have already threatened not to take part in future similar exercises citing contempt from the Council over delayed dues.
The 2022 KNEC contracted professionals scheduled for the forthcoming payment include the following: Center Managers who are usually Principals and Headteachers, Supervisors, Invigilators, and the Security Personne.
Based on the payment details released by the council, the Primary School heads who serve as Center Managers for the KCPE exams pocket a daily subsistence allowance of Sh500 for a total of 4 days including rehearsal day. Similarly, Secondary School principals who are center managers of KCSE exams, pocket a daily allowance of Sh500 for a sum of 18 days. However, it is unfortunate that the Council does not appreciate the Deputy headteachers and Deputy principals in any monetary way even though they are expected to be present at school during the examination period as assistants to the Center Managers. The same fate befalls the Science teachers who handle Science practicals during KCSE.
Furthermore, the highest-paid Supervisor pockets a total of Sh12,510 while the highest-paid invigilator takes home Sh9860.
