On Friday, January 3, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) advised civil servants to apply for a loan known as the training revolving funds.

The loan, which is offered in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service, is intended for civil servants in the national government, county governments, and the National Police Service.

“This one’s for you, civil servants!” The Training Revolving Fund – TRF loan application period has begun, according to the notification.

According to HELB, civil staff can apply for payments ranging from Ksh30,000 to Ksh500,000, payable over six years.

The loan, with a low annual interest rate of 4%, will be used to help federal officials pay tuition, examination costs, library fees, and computer and research fees.

HELB has also emphasized courses supported by the revolving fund, which include postgraduate studies, master’s and doctoral degrees, and three-month short courses.

Requirements

Civil servants interested in the loan must supply at least two coworkers to act as guarantors as well as a recommendation letter from their company.

Furthermore, the individual must get an admission letter from the accredited university where they intend to study.

Three copies of their most recent payslips, a certified copy of their national identification card (ID), a certified KRA pin, and current coloured passport-sized pictures are also required.

Loan repayment begins the first month after funds are disbursed, and will be done through a monthly check-off mechanism from the employer’s payroll.

This announcement comes only days after HELB approved loans of up to Ksh500,000 for Kenyan nurses wishing to enhance their education.

“This is for nurses pursuing advanced and specialised courses in approved training institutions in Kenya,” the health ministry said.
