HELB Announces Ksh500,000 Loans for Kenyan Nurses: How to Apply.

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) announced on Wednesday, January 3, that the government was granting loans to Kenyan nurses wishing to further their education through the agency.

According to HELB, nurses who accept this offer would be given Ksh500,000 towards their tuition fees. The loan will be paid back over five years at a low-interest rate of 4%.

According to HELB, the credit, titled Advanced Nursing Education Fund, would be available through the HELB portal.

“This is for nurses pursuing advanced and specialised courses in approved training institutions in Kenya,” HELB stated, adding that the loans were flexible and affordable.

Loan Requirements and How to Apply

Students who are interested in the Ksh500,000 loan must submit a copy of their admission letter from a HELB-compliant institution.

The loan is offered to both continuing nursing students and those who wish to register in further courses and have already received an admission letter.

In addition, interested applicants must submit a completed application form, which may be found on the HELB webpage.

A copy of the national identity card and three recent payslip copies confirmed by the employer are also required for qualifying.

In other news, HELB advised undergraduate students who had applied for first-year funding that their cash had not yet been disbursed.

The loans had already been allocated, according to HELB, and the body was working on making the disbursement.

The loans would be disbursed through the Higher Education Funding (HEF) mechanism, which President William Ruto announced in May 2023.

Students are classified as vulnerable, highly needy, needy, or less needy under HEF.
