GREAT LAKES UNIVERSITY OF KISUMU (GLUK) is a private chartered university offering degree and other programmes in various disciplines including Health Sciences, Community Development, Education, Theology, Agribusiness, Business Administration, IT among others.  The University is looking for highly qualified, experienced and motivated team player personnel to fill the position of TUTORIAL FELLOWS/LECTURERS in (COMMUNITY NUTRITION, LITERATURE, COMMUNITY HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT), CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER, CHIEF ACCOUNTANT and CLERK OF WORKS.

  1. TUTORIAL FELLOWS/LECTURERS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing related course outlines;
  • Lecturing in relevant courses;
  • Assessing students on Industrial attachment;
  • Setting, moderating and marking examinations;
  • Guiding students in practicals.

Requirements for Appointment

The successful candidate should have /be:

  • At least masters degree in the relevant field;
  • A PhD holder will have an added advantage;
  • Publications in the relevant field;
  • Demonstrate both mixture of field practice and class Lectures;
  • At least three (3) relevant work experiences and exemplary performance.
  1. CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervising other security personnel
  • Ensuring security of visitors of the University and create reports thereof
  • Enforcing traffic discipline within the University
  • Making regular security surveys and summary reports on University security
  • Preventing and reporting any theft or loss of GLUK properties
  • Handling welfare matters of security staff such as uniforms, leave roster, off duty, duty rota
  • Monitoring movement of vehicles and assisting the transport officer on security of the vehicles (e.g parking places, accidents, inspections etc)
  • Coordinating outsourced security services and internal security operations
  • Handling staff security cases and security administrative issues
  • Collecting and gathering intelligence data/information
  • Compiling security reports
  • Assisting the University authorities in maintaining law and order
  • Assisting the University in day to day administration of students hostels (specifically evicting unauthorized occupants/intruders)
  • Performing any other duty that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements for Appointment

The successful candidate should have /be:

  • At least a bachelors degree in security related studies from a recognized institution
  • A Masters degree in security studies or equivalent from a recognized institution will be an added advantage
  • Must have served as a Security Officer for a minimum of 5 years in a similar setting
  • Having served as a Police Officer or Intelligence Service Security will be an added advantage
  1. CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinating financial activities within the University
  • Providing leadership and supervision of the finance department
  • Monitoring and controlling financial expenditure and budgets
  • Responsible for efficiency and effectiveness of the finance department
  • Responsible for effective co-ordination and implementation of financial policies and procedures
  • In-charge of personnel matters in the department.
  • Responsible for the coordination and generation of financial reports and statements
  • Responsible for formulation and implementation of the departmental strategic plan.
  • Advising University Management and the Council on the University cash reserves and investments.
  • Responsible for statutory and deductions and contributions and remitting the same to statutory bodies
  • Performing any other duty as assigned by immediate supervisor

Skills, Experience, and Competencies

  • Ability to provide strategic leadership to the finance and operations teams, communicating well within the teams, and show demonstrated experience in managing staff, relationships, and institutional resources.
  • Adept in multi-tasking, dealing with complexities of institutions and relationships, and in seeking and providing clarity to
  • Demonstrated outstanding qualities for leadership, coordination and organization capabilities at management level.
  • Experience working with donors and knowledge of statutory requirements.

Requirement for Appointment

The successful candidate should have/be:

  • An MBA finance option from a recognized University in a relevant field such as Accounting or finance and hold CPA (K) or ACCA qualifications.
  • Ten (10) years finance experience, out of which at least 7 years in a senior management level.
  • Registered member of ICPAK or an equivalent Accounting body.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with most accounting applications.
  1. CLERK OF WORKS

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinating, monitoring and inspecting work of construction contractor for assigned projects on behalf of the University.
  • Reviewing contract documents, architectural drawings and specifications in order to maintain familiarity with assigned projects and insure construction contractor’s full understanding of documents.
  • Reviewing contractor shop drawings and providing comments on conformance/non-conformance to architect.
  • Acting as liaison between architect and contractor.
  • Conduct on-site observation and spot-checks of work in progress.
  • Ensuring contract compliance by the contractor, such as conducting tests specified in contract and installing materials/equipment as specified in contract, and report deficiencies to project manager, architect and contractor.
  • Providing reports on all on-site matters, including third-party inspections, progress, safety concerns, and causes for delay.
  • Maintaining job-site files, documents, reports and daily log; prepare periodic reports for University/University System managers and architect as required.
  • Attending all job-site meetings as University/University System representative or in conjunction with project manager.
  • Receiving, recording, present for architect approval, and maintain custody of samples submitted by construction contract.
  • Reviewing requests for progress payments submitted by construction contractor and forward with recommendations to architect.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.

Requirement for Appointment

  • At least Bachelors Degree in construction technology, building science or related field.
  •  At least two years of related experience in building construction in capacity such as clerk of the works or project manager, or Bachelor’s degree in production technology.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, codes, and other material pertinent to construction.
  • Working knowledge of building components and systems.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, means and methods.
  • Knowledge of applicable state building codes, Life Safety and hazardous materials.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships.
  • Ability to wear/use personal protective equipment as needed on construction site.
