This article provides a comprehensive overview of the key points to ensure a smooth and fair examination experience.

1. Time Management is Paramount

Candidates are reminded that the time allocated for each paper is specified in the question paper. In case of any discrepancy, candidates must regard the time stated on the question paper as the accurate duration.

Visually impaired candidates will not receive extra time beyond what their respective papers specify.

Please note that any time allocated for reading questions is already part of the total examination duration unless special instructions indicate otherwise.

2. Commencement of Sessions

All examination sessions will commence promptly at 8.00 a.m. Candidates should ensure they arrive at their examination seats five minutes before the designated starting time.

3. Examination Integrity and Proper Identification

Candidates must adhere to strict examination regulations to maintain the integrity of the process. It is mandatory to write their names, index numbers, and signatures on their answer scripts before supervisors collect them.

It is also vital to answer only the required number of questions specified in the paper instructions. Any excess responses will not be considered.

4. Detailed Instructions for Candidates

Candidates should be aware of specific guidelines:

  • Be punctual and arrive at the examination room five minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • Provide a valid reason to the supervisor if he or she arrives late.
  • Report any discrepancies in the examination paper or materials provided.
  • Carefully follow the directions outlined in the question paper, including limits on the number of questions to answer.
  • Properly label answer sheets and pages with names, index numbers, and paper names.
  • Write responses with black or blue ink and reserve pencils for diagrams.
  • Read questions thoroughly to avoid wasting time on irrelevant information.
  • Manage time effectively to answer all questions.
  • Arrange answer sheets and books in the correct order for submission to the supervisor.
  • Notify the Council in advance if withdrawing from the examination.

5. Cautionary Notes to Candidates

Candidates must adhere to several crucial guidelines:

  • No early departure from the examination room without supervisor’s permission.
  • Do not leave written materials exposed for others to read.
  • Avoid any form of unfair assistance, copying, or irregularities.
  • Maintain silence during the examination; no communication with other candidates or outsiders is allowed.
  • Possession of unauthorized materials, notes, or books in the examination room is strictly prohibited.
  • Use only approved mathematical tables with no additional notes or formulae.
  • Return any incorrect question papers to the supervisor.
  • Refrain from taking any examination materials out of the room.
  • Disruptive behaviour will be treated as a severe examination irregularity.
  • Mobile phones are strictly prohibited, and violations will result in result cancellation.

6. Penalties for Irregularities

KNEC Act 2012 prescribes the rules and regulations regarding examination irregularities, with penalties as follows:

  • Examination irregularities lead to the cancellation of results for the entire subject, with an overall result of “Y.”
  • Widespread irregularities at an examination centre will result in the cancellation of all examination results for that centre.
  • Offences such as revealing examination content, damaging materials, or impersonating candidates carry severe penalties, including imprisonment and hefty fines.
