TSC Receives Sh298 Billion In Budgetary Allocation- Annual Salary Hikes In 2022 July

TSC (the Teachers Service Commission) will be paying their teaching fraternity employed on permanent and pensionable terms their annual salary hike this July 2022. This is after the commission was allocated a whopping Sh298B from the treasury for this sole purpose.

All teachers across the TSC-designed cadres will earn their usual yearly salary hike uninterrupted, in July when the Commission receives the allocated funds from the treasury. Information has it that the lowest-ranked teacher grade( B5) commonly called Primary Teacher 11 will be taking home some 900 shillings hike.

From the allocated funds to the commission, a sum of 289.97 billion will be used to finance teacher resource management while Sh1.16 billion shall be used for governance and standards. On the other hand, Sh 7.24 billion has been planned for general administration,  organization, and support services.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) OF 2021-2025 document shows that the lowest job group, B5, is supposed to move gradually until they reach their highest salary point i.e Sh 27,195. This is duplicated in other job groups where a teacher for example serving currently in job group C1( Primary Teacher 1) with a basic salary of Sh 30,405 is supposed to reach a maximum salary of Sh 33,994 upon annual increment over some time.

It was the norm that the month upon which teachers got officially enlisted in the commission’s payroll, became the automatic date of their annual salary increment. Nevertheless, on adopting the CPG and signing the first Collective Bargaining Agreement( 2017-2021) after a successful job evaluation, this trend changed as all teachers in service then were all moved into new job groups in July.

Earlier, communication from the commission indicated that it is keen on making some positive salary changes for its members come this July. (2022). This is on the background of SRC earlier giving a communique restricting all government institutions including parastatals from effecting any salary changes. Therefore necessitating parliament to revoke the two-year salary freeze. This is what had held the Commission’s hand in effecting these annual salary hikes for her members!
