Oaklands School of Tailoring is one of the best Fashion Schools in Kenya.
OSA’s Fashion Design Department provides comprehensive artistic and technical training for aspiring young designers with a diverse curriculum offered for students in grades 6th – 12th that focuses on project-based and collaborative learning. In addition to classwork, Fashion Design students produce a Spring Fashion Week runway show and are responsible for costuming up to three OSA productions a year.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Middle School Fashion Design (6-8)
This design driven program incorporates technical training with a comprehensive artistic experience for aspiring young designers. Our diverse curriculum is based on design development, project-based learning, collaborative learning and strong construction skills. Students will work both independently and in small groups throughout the year around four major themes: Home, Sustainability, Form & Function and Culture & Identity, all through the lens of fashion.
Fashion and Costume Design: Introductory
Students will learn how to draw a fashion croqui, work in different mediums such as marker, colored pencil and watercolors and work as a studio technician in the workroom sewing and building costumes and other soft goods. Students will also learn fashion history and current fashion trends/news and practice discussing and writing about fashion. At the end of the year, students will design and build for the Spring Runway Show.
Fashion and Costume Design II: Concentration
Students will delve deeper into the practice of designing and rendering for actually realized productions and people. They will learn about character design and drawing, script analysis and how to gain visual reference, mood boards and presentations, the language of clothes and fashion in society. Please follow the procedures described on the following pages carefully. All steps and deadlines in the application process are required for enrollment. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS CANNOT BE CONSIDERED.
Important!
OSA is phasing out auditions over the next five years. Incoming 6th graders are entered through a lottery system without auditions. Applications for all incoming 6th graders will be available through the Oakland Enrolls charter school online application platform. The link will be available in November. 7-12th grade students are entered into OSA’s enrollment lottery based on an audition. The audition is designed to identify students with demonstrated interest, aptitude and potential in one of ten art forms.
