School of Graduate Studies, Research & Extension
The School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension provides a one stop shop for all graduate students’ needs and supports academic research in line with University policy. 
The School oversees graduate programs, partnerships with other universities and industry, research opportunities and funding, upcoming conferences and workshops, colloquia and scholarships for graduate research.

With regard to the graduate studies, the school ensures standardization of all graduate programs, encourages collaboration amongst the graduate programs, oversees implementation processes and quality checks, fundraises for graduate programs provides the criteria for admission of graduate students, manages comprehensive examinations, oversees internal and external examination of theses and reviews students’ graduation requirements before approval by the senate. The school also offers training services to students, staff and faculty on applied research (proposal development, research methodology, publishing and dissemination of research output).

With regard to research and extension, the school’s mandate is to link the university with the industry by offering value add support to industry. This is to be achieved by; 

Providing cutting edge consultancies and trainings to industry and becoming knowledge partners in industry events

Undertaking research that is relevant to the industry hence create a think tank for the industry’s use and advise on the intellectual property rights of the outcome of such research and consequent products developed

Providing alternative thinking to the social problems affecting the society at large and ensuring that policy advocacy is based on valid data

Hosting public lectures where industry leaders share their experiences with the university students

Providing industry leaders with a forum to address multi-disciplinary conferences

The school has responsibility for all extension and related services.

Lastly the school promotes research culture by supporting public lectures and hosting academic conferences. The overall annual university conference (East African Multidisciplinary Applied Research Conference) is hosted in November while other conferences with specific themes are hosted on a quarterly basis.

Institute of Higher Education Research and Leadership Development

The Institute of Higher Education Research and Leadership Development was launched in January 2019 and is mandated to institutionalize and undertake development of leadership and research in African Higher Education Institutions. The institute is tasked to develop a governance program for senior leadership organs of Higher Education institutes, develop functional programs for middle level managers, develop programs for building capacity of policy makers and teachers involved in developing and implementing competency based curriculum, hold policy dialogues on Higher Education, develop a research center dedicated to research on Higher Education. I2C provides entrepreneurship training, advisement, mentoring, linkages, and work space for student and alumni-run ventures. Selected business ideas are incubated for a 12-month period to develop the idea and to better position it for a successful launch.

Metro AgriFood Living Lab

This is a unique research project supporting Kenya’s youth to actively engage in profitable agri-businesses. It is designed to identify and field test innovative business models for taking innovations to scale. The research uses the metropolitan living lab model to guide current and aspiring youth entrepreneurs in developing profitable agri-business enterprises in the agri-business sector. The living lab brings together a unique set of activities and services that create the needed synergy to support not only learning, but also innovation, business development and the creation of new knowledge. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EPIDEMIOLOGY & BIOSTATISTICS 

The USIU-Africa Bachelor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics program is based on two basic and seamlessly integrated sciences of public health. The program promotes the development, application and teaching of descriptive and analytic approaches used to understand the increasingly complex causes, distribution and determinants of major local, national, regional and global public health problems.

Monitoring quality of teaching and learning environment on a day-to-day basis including:

Collecting, interpreting and presenting data on performance of current degree programs on a semester by semester basis and advice school on the same, Supporting university’s effort to recruit and retain student in the program, Supporting and coordinating faculty (both fulltime and adjunct) to perform their work efficiently, resolving students’ academic issues, coordinating curriculum development activities, examining documentation in course files and evaluating faculty performance, participating in faculty recruitment to ensure that the required standards are met, lead faculty in the development of program research agenda and execution of the same, Liaise with the Dean and Research office in developing program linkages with other universities, research institutions and research project sponsors, assist the Dean in preparing the program for statutory accreditation report/assessments and program reviews.
