JUSTIN BEDAN NJOKA MUTURI (2013)

He is the current Speaker of the National Assembly and has been the speaker since 2013 under the Jubilee Party. His deputy is Hon. Moses Cheboi.

KENNETH MARENDE (2008 – 2013)

He was elected to the Speaker of the National Assembly position in 2008 and served as the 6th Speaker beating the previous speaker, Francis Ole Kaparo. Kenneth Marende served during President’s Mwai Kibaki’s tenure. 

FRANCIS OLE KAPARO (1993 – 2007)

Francis Xavier Ole KAPARO is the second longest serving Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly after Fredrick Mbiti Mati. He served from the year 1993 to the year 2007. Francis Ole Kaparo is a lawyer by profession.

JONATHAN KIMETET ARAP NG’ENO (1991-1993)

After the resignation of Moses Arap Keino, Jonathan was elected to serve as the speaker of the National Assembly for the remaining period until the next general elections. 

MOSES KIPRONO ARAP KEINO (1988-1991)

Moses Keino first served as the Deputy Speaker until his resignation under the then Speaker, Fredrick Mbiti in the year 1983. He was then elected as the Speaker of the house in the year 1988 until his resignation in the year 1991. Moses Kiprono is the only speaker since independence to ever resign to date.

FREDRICK MBITI GIDEON MATI (1970-1988)

He was the first African Kenyan to serve as the Speaker of the National Assembly. He served for 18 years making him the longest-serving Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly to date. Fredrick Mbiti Mati was from Kitui Constituency.

HUMPHREY SLADE (1967-1970)

He was the inaugural (first-ever) speaker of the National Assembly in Kenya. He was the speaker of the house from 1967-1970. Sir Humphrey Slade was born in London, England but migrated to Kenya and worked here as a lawyer. In 1952, he was elected to the Legislative Council from the Aberdares Constituency where he resided. He died in Nairobi in the year 1984.
