Okiya Omtatah
– Busia Okiya Omtatah isn’t a strange name among Kenyans.
He is one of the most renowned activists in Kenya, with numerous court cases that some wouldn’t dare handle.
During the general election, Okiya Omtatah vied under the National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA) party. He won Busia’s senatorial seat after getting 164,478 votes.
Johnes Mwaruma – Taita
-Taveta Johnes Mwaruma won the Taita Taveta senatorial seat under the Orange Democratic party. He beat his closest rival, outgoing Sagala MCA Godwin Kilele of Jubilee, with 39,142 votes.
Stewart Madzayo – Kilifi
Stewart Madzayo retained his seat as the senator of Kilifi County, the 7th most populous county in Kenya, behind Meru. In 2021, he was appointed the new Senate Deputy Minority leader following the ouster of Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala.
Abdul Haji – Garissa
Abdul Haji won the Garissa senate seat under Jubilee Party with 72,383 votes. He was followed by Shalle Mohammed Issack of Ford Kenya with 19,279 votes. Abdul is popular for being the son of former senator Yusuf Haji (who died in February 2021) and brother to DPP Noordin Haji.
Issa Boya – Kwale
Issa Juma Boy is the elected senator for Kwale County, where at one point, a constituent whipped ODM party leader Raila Odinga. He is famous for his simplicity and for using the “mulika mwizi” phone.
Moses Kajwang – Homabay
Moses Otieno Kajwang is the current senator for Homa Bay County and a member of the Orange Democratic Movement.
The senator was born into a family of politicians. His elder brother, Gerald Otieno Kajwang (who died in 2014), served as a member of parliament for seventeen years. Before becoming a senator, Moses worked for fourteen years in the financial and supply chain industries.
Ledama Ole Kina – Narok
Ledama Ole Kina was re-elected as the senator for Narok County in the August 9, 2022, polls.
He beat the incumbent governor Samuel Tunai by garnering 135,180 votes. Ole Kina is one of the most vocal in the Senate and the ODM party and has stood out as a staunch politician over the years.
Oburu Odinga – Siaya
Oburu Odinga is Raila Odinga’s brother.
He attained 285,595 votes to defeat other candidates in the senatorial race to become Siaya’s senator-elect. Oburu is the Kenya member of parliament for the East African Legislative Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania. It would be interesting to see how he will juggle these responsibilities once sworn in as Siaya senator.
Richard Onyonka – Kisii
Richard Onyonka previously held the Kitutu Chache MP seat. He is now the incoming senator for Kisii County.
Godfrey Osotsi – Vihiga
Godfrey won the senatorial seat in Vihiga, a region perceived as Musalia Mudavadi’s backyard. He got the seat under the Orange Democratic Movement party.
James Lomenen Ekomwa – Turkana
The former Turkana South member of parliament, James Leomenen, won the Turkana County senatorial seat. In February 2022, the leader decamped from the Ruto-led UDA party for the newly formed UPYA party. Indeed, it was a great move, allowing him to clinch the senatorial seat in Turkana County.
Enoch Wambua – Kitui
Enoch Wambua joined the list of senators in Azimio by clinching the Kitui County senatorial seat. He was still the county senator in the previous parliament, and he got the seat back under the WIPER K party.

This is the second time that Mohamed Faki has won the Mombasa senatorial seat.

Erick Okong’o Omogeni joined the list of Azimio senators elected in 2022 by clinching the Nyamira senatorial seat. He was first elected as the county senator on August 8, 2017, and will serve his second term. Erick belongs to the Orange Democratic Movement Party.
Fatuma Dullo – Isiolo
Fatuma Dullo joined the list of Azimio senators by getting elected as the senator for Isiolo County. This is the second time she clinched the seat, hence serving her second term. Fatuma made history by becoming the first of three female senators and the only one from the North-eastern region.
Ali Roba – Mandera
Ali Roba is the first governor of Mandera County and served the position for two terms (2013-2017 and 2017-2022). In the August 2022 general elections, Ali Roba vied for the senator’s seat under the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party.
However, after the elections, the governor shifted sides and joined the Kenya Kwanza alliance, although he is still legally in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance.
