How To Join Kenya DCI

The DCI Academy is dedicated to being the regional premier law enforcement learning and research centre and an advocate for law enforcement best practices. It is the institution tasked with training in matters of investigations in the National Police Service.

Criminal cases are present in today’s life as there is a whole society full of people with different personalities and characteristics. The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is a criminal investigation department that has helped to curb the situation of complex criminal cases.

They get to the root of the matter to arrest the right criminal. This is among the risky jobs that require passion and determination to be successful.

How To Join Kenya DCI

Attain a minimum mean grade of C in the KCSE.

Have at least a minimum grade of C in English or Kiswahili.

Attain a degree or diploma in the following courses: pure science, applied science, and social science.

You must be 45 years of age or older.

Prove your passion for criminal investigation by passing the given test.

DCI recruitment is then announced to the public.

Apply for the DCI job by downloading the application form from the DCI Kenya portal.

Fill in the form correctly and upload it together with your curriculum vitae.

You will then be required to undergo special training after the interview.

General Requirement To Join Kenya DCI

To be recruited as a DCI officer in Kenya (for those already working in the National Police Service), you must fulfil all of the following;

Hold a minimum KCSE mean grade of C Plain – you must also have C (plain) in English AND/OR Kiswahili. Equivalent grades from any other examination accredited in Kenya may be considered.

OR

Hold a Degree/Diploma in any of these fields: Pure Sciences, social sciences, and Applied Sciences. Please note that you must have met the minimum KCSE grade requirements set above.

Must have worked in police service for at least five (5) years

Must be fifty-five (55) years old (or below) for Gazetted police officers and the members of the Inspectorate.

Must be forty-five (45) years old (or below) for applicants of Other Ranks.

Those with tried, tested, & proven passion for conducting investigations and operations may be considered (as long as you have passed all police exams and you have no disciplinary case).

Specific Skills Required to Join DCI in Kenya

Demonstrated professional integrity, maturity, and ability to pay attention to detail.

Proven ability to always maintain objectivity on the job. You must also prove that you can apply logical reasoning and plan tactically (and strategically).

You must have the ability to work under pressure persistently and meet tight deadlines.

Strong communication skills- oral and written- and good listening skills.

Experience in doing your work with computers including knowing how to use presentation software, business intelligence software, word processing software, and the internet.

Ability to independently analyze complicated scenarios or massive volumes of material and prepare professional reports.

Ability to work within a multi-faceted crime investigative team with minimum supervision.

You must be good at problem-solving, and be proactive, innovative, and results-oriented.

You must have the ability to develop as well as maintain professional networks.

Courses:

The School offers courses for the officers under the DCI, KPS and various parastatals and government ministries. It also offers joint programs with foreign counterparts notably Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) of Germany and the Chinese Government. The School is also seeking other partners in the field to expand the knowledge scope and best practices from all over the world.
