How To Get A Good Conduct Certificate In Kenya

A good Conduct Certificate is a Certificate issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kenya confirming an applicant’s criminal record status. It is also known as a Police Clearance Certificate. Some institutions accept an Affidavit of Good Conduct instead. (check for your purpose).

How To Get A Good Conduct Certificate In Kenya

1. Duly fill out a C24 application form which can either be downloaded from the e-Citizen portal at dci.ecitizen.go.ke, at the Huduma Centres or at the DCI offices located at Mazingira House, Kiambu Road.

2. Make an online processing fee payment of Ksh1050 for the Police Clearance Certificate through the mobile money platforms.

3. Present the Original ID and its photocopy (or Birth Certificate for minors), two (2) copies of the online payment invoice and one (1) copy of the C24 printed on both sides of a C24 to DCI headquarters or regional police headquarters.

4. Allow your fingerprints and palm prints to be recorded on a prescribed fingerprint form C24.

Requirements for Kenyan citizens:

  1. A complete set of rolled and plain fingerprints taken at a local police station bearing an official stamp or taken before an Attorney and certified not photocopy or prints used in previous years.
  2. Photocopy of Kenyan 2nd generation identity card if the applicant is over 18 years of age.
  3. If the applicant is below 18 years old a certified copy of the Birth Certificate.
  4. Two passport-size pictures (full face showing both ears)
  5. An application letter.
  6. The description of the applicant(download and fill out the application form).
  7. Money order/cashier’s check for $50.00 payable to the Embassy of The Republic of Kenya.
  8. Self-addressed certified stamped envelope with enough postage-FedEx, Express mail, Certified Mail, Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. (NB: Metered stamps and Regular mail are not acceptable).

How to  apply for a certificate of good conduct online (through eCitizen Portal)

  • Log in to the eCitizen portal or create an account if you don’t have one. Under 18s should use their parents’ eCitizen account.
  • Click on the link Directorate of Criminal Investigations and select get services now.
  • Click the police clearance certificate
  • Select your application and then click next
  • Select your fingerprint area and location and then click complete
  • Select the mode of payment, pay, and click complete. You will be redirected to the homepage if your payment was successful
  • The next step involves downloading a copy of your C24 and two copies of your invoice. The documents should be printed on both sides of an A4 paper and presented to the department headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations or Huduma Center DCI Desk where you would like to have your fingerprints taken
  • Then Book an Appointment for finger taking and take the forms mentioned above on the date selected. You can reschedule your appointment date through eCitizen portal.
  • Once everything has been processed and approved, you will be notified via email to download your certificate of good conduct. You can also be checking your ecitizen portal account whether the certificate is ready for download.
