The Department has the following sections:

Pharmaceutical Technology

The Department started offering Certificate course in Science Laboratory Technology in 1990. In the year 1996 Diploma courses were started in Analytical Chemistry and Applied Biology, later in the year 2000 the department started offering Health courses in Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Technology. Over the years the department has grown from strength to strength having a new course in Food Technology in 2005.

The department is one of the country`s Centres of Excellence (CoE) identified by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology in 2007. Since then, the department has acquired State of the Art equipment from the Government, the African Development Bank, among other Financiers. Since inception, the department has graduated 1,314 student trainees in the various disciplines.

Our graduates are absorbed in Research Institutions, in Hospitals, in Food and Beverage Industries, in Medical Laboratories and Learning Institutions, both in the private and Public sectors. All the Diploma graduates are eligible to further their studies in Bachelor of Science degree in their areas of specialization. Successful certificate graduates can pursue a KNEC Diploma course in any of the following areas; 

Food Technology

Applied Biology or

Analytical Chemistry

Both Pharmaceutical Technology and Medical Laboratory Technology are Registered with the regulatory bodies i.e. Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) and Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board (KMLTTB) respectively. The department has highly qualified, vibrant and self-motivated staff with varying areas of specialization. The future prospects of the department are to establish a research laboratory, a public medical facility for diagnosis and a dispensing pharmacy.
