TSC Teachers To Undergo This Training In April

Education CS Prof George Magoha has revealed grades 7 and 8 teachers are set to undergo training in the month of April 2022.

CAS for Education Dr Sarah Ruto also accompanied CS Magoha as they attended a consultative meeting they held at Jogoo House with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chairperson Jamleck Muturi and the Commission’s CEO Dr Nancy Macharia.

CS Magoha was touring Laburra mixed secondary school where he commissioned the new CBC classrooms.

The training is intended to help the implementation of junior high school at the secondary school level which will comprise of Grades 7 and 8 in the new 2-6-3-3-3 Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

In the coming months of March and April, more than sixty thousand secondary school teachers will be equipped with knowledge on handling junior secondary classes.

So far, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has trained at least 120,000 primary school teachers on handling grade six students.

The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is set to enter junior secondary school level next year 2023. Grades 7, 8 and 9 will enrol in Junior secondary school as the pioneer students in the exiting competency-based curriculum after they have done their Grade six national examinations.

According to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), the design of the curriculum is complete for Grades one to ten is complete.

Construction of classrooms for Grades 7, 8 and 9 is ongoing with the current phase set to be completed before the start of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary (KCSE).

According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Chiefs shall oversee the construction of 11,600 new classrooms in schools in their respective areas.

According to CS Magoha, teachers who will be charged with teaching in junior high school will undergo a ten-month training on the CBC and specifically the junior secondary school level.
