Teachers Service Commission on Monday 17th, launched a piloting biometric registration exercise targeting 143 schools spread in seven counties ahead of the full rollout.

The seven counties include; Uasin Gishu, Homa Bay, Bungoma, Nyeri, Kilifi, Kitui and Garissa. Institutions sampled are from primary, secondary and teachers training colleges.

TSC Biometric Registration Deadline: The pilot exercise will run till 21st May 2021.

Official Time for TSC Biometric Registration Exercise

Teachersare reminded that the biometric registration exercise will be take place in schools during the official working hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

According to the TSC boss Dr Nancy Macharia, the bio data will help the commission in curbing cheating during exams.

The Commission further indicated that the biometric registration will help to verify teacher distribution and utilization in schools, establish areas of teaching specialization, validate the enrolment in public schools and authenticate teachers bio data and employment records.

Requirements for TSC Biometric registration

During the registration, teachers are required to physically present the following five documents during the exercise;

TSC Certificate of registration
National ID card
Letter of first appointment
Letter of last appointment
Academic Certificates

It is important to note that this is a piloting exercise for the program planned to be launched countrywide after solving the bottlenecks which may arise.

Plans are underway to see to it that in future, teachers joining the profession will have their bio-data taken before their details are entered into the payroll.

Biometric registration exercise was initially slated to start in May 2020 but it was shelved due to the Covid-19 pandemic that adversely affected operations in schools leading to closure.

“The biometric registration shall entail validation of data of teachers in all public primary and secondary schools, Teacher Training Colleges, Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) and Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE),” the commission revealed.
