VACANCIES FOR INTERNSHIPS
The Co-operative University of Kenya (CUK) is a State owned University established by the Government of Kenya under the Universities Act 2012. The CUK is located in Karen, approximately 20km from Nairobi City Centre, a very conducive environment for serious academic engagement and learning.

The Vision of the University is to be a leading University in Co-operative Training, Education, Research and Innovation and the Mission of the university is to provide education, training, research and consultancy in order to produce leaders in the fields of Co-Operative Development, Community Development, Rural Transformation, Business, Applied Sciences, Information and Communication Technology for Development. The Co-operative University of Kenya invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the positions of internship in the University main campus as follows:

a) Human Resource Intern (CUK/NT/HR/3/19 (1 )
b) Accountant Intern (CUK/NT/FIN/3/19 (1 )
c) Audit intern (CUK/NT/AUDIT/3/19( 1 )
d) Nurse Intern (CUK/NT/DISP/3/19( 1 )
e) Legal Intern (CUK/NT/LO/3/19(1 )
f) ICT Intern (CUK/NT/ICT/3/19( 1 )
g) Telecommunications Intern (CUK/NT/ICT/3/19(1)
h) Administrative Assistant Intern (CUK/NT/ADMIN.ASST/3/1 9(1)

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  1. Be unemployed Kenyan graduates from recognized training institutions;
  2. Must have completed degree/diploma programmes and have not been exposed to work experience related to their area of study;
  3. Be graduates of degree/diploma programmes for whom internship is a requirement for registration by their respective professional bodies;
  4. Should not have retired or exited from formal employment; and
  5. Has never benefited from a similar programme.

a) Human Resource Intern  (CUK/NT/HR/3/19 (1)

Qualification: Bachelors Degree/Diploma in Human Resource Management from a recognized or accredited Institution.

Duties and responsibilities

In liaison with the Principal Human Resource Manager:

  1. Handling routine correspondences in the department;
  2. Updating staff data on the internal Human Resource Management System;
  3. Processing staff appraisal and staff leave;
  4. Providing secretariat services to various university committees
  5. Organising staff training sessions and activities;
  6. Summarizing applications for shortlisting and interviews;
  7. Confirming vacancy positions against the approved establishment;
  8. Drafting internal and external adverts for academic & non-teaching staff;
  9. Monitoring staff performance and attendance
  10. Enforcement of disciplinary procedures.

b) Accountant Intern (CUK/NT/FIN/3/19 (1)

Qualification: Bachelors Degree in accounting from a recognized or accredited Institution.

Duties and responsibilities:

In liaison with the Finance Officer:

  1. Collecting all relevant information on fixed assets from various departments;
  2. Maintaining fixed asset register;
  3. Co-coordinating coding of all university assets;
  4. Reconciliation of relevant accounts;
  5. Processing LPOs, payment vouchers;
  6. Preparation of university budget;
  7. Preparation of various reports.

c) Audit intern (CUK/NT/AUDIT/3/19( 1 )

Qualification: Bachelors Degree in accounting from a recognized or accredited  Institution.

Duties and responsibilities:

In liaison with the In-charge Internal Audit:

  1. Undertake comprehensive audits on utilization of resources;
  2. Ensure compliance with established internal control procedures by examining; records, reports, operating practices, and documentation;
  3. Verify assets and liabilities by comparing items to documentation;
  4. Ascertain correctness of accounting records;
  5. Draw audit programmes;
  6. Prepare audit report queries and observations.

d) Nurse Intern (CUK/NT/DISP/3/19(1)

Qualification: Kenya Registered Nurse/Kenya Registered Community Nurse OR Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

Duties and responsibilities:

In charge of nursing services in the absence of the Nursing Officer;

  1. Carries out all nursing duties in the allocated area as necessary;
  2. Consults with the In Charge Dispensary in the nursing management of the patients under him/her.

e) Legal Intern (CUK/NT/LO/3/19(1)

Qualification: Bachelors Degree/ Diploma in Law or related field from a recognized or accredited Institution.

Duties and responsibilities:

In liaison with the In-charge legal matters:

  1. Prepare briefs to the University external lawyers for all court cases;
  2. Prepare all legal documents including internal lease/tenancy agreements,
  3. Memorandum of understanding (MOU’S), collaboration agreements among others;
  4. Advise on industrial relations and Trade dispute matters;
  5. Liaise with the University external lawyers in relation to pending legal matters;
  6. Prepare briefs to the University Staff, Disciplinary Committee and giving advice in the disciplinary cases;
  7. Give legal advice regarding the interpretation of all University documents such as Terms of Service.

f) ICT Intern  (CUK/NT/ICT/3/19(1)

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree/ Diploma in IT

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with the applications team, network team, technical team towards effective user support in the University;
  2. Perform routine maintenance of IT resources both software and hardware in the assigned departments/sections including software and hardware upgrades;
  3. Assess user needs and train them to be better able to respond to their user environment;
  4. Implement security measures on data, software applications and hardware at the user workstations and sections;
  5. Train users on appropriate security measures for the protection of data and information, its privacy and confidentiality.

g) Telecommunications Intern (CUK/NT/ICT/3/19(1)

Qualification: Bachelors Degree/Diploma in telecommunications systems OR Bachelors Degree/ Diploma in applied Telecommunication

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Installing and maintaining telecommunication systems;
  2. Coordinating and Managing the equipment and ensuring they are in working condition;
  3. Performing regular tests on systems to ensure all components are running well;
  4. Cleaning and handling delicate equipment to avoid breakage;
  5. Ensuring safety of the equipment;
  6. Reporting to the PICTO any equipment not functioning to enable repairs.

h) Administrative Assistant Intern (CUK/NT/ADMIN.ASST/3/19( 1 )

Qualification: Bachelors Degree from a recognized or accredited Institution.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Assist in administrative duties including: verification of information on recruitment, appointment, training, staff deployment, personnel records, student admissions, student records and industrial relations;
  2. Assist in implementation of administrative decisions by the department where he/she is deployed;
  3. Carry out administrative activities in his/her area of jurisdiction.

  • A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;
  • Personal accident insurance cover lasting at least six (6)months;
  • Copy of PIN certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority;
  • Medical insurance cover from National Hospital Insurance cover (NHIF) or any other reputable medical insurance firm.

All applicants must fulfill the requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution on Leadership and Integrity.

  1.
