Artificial intelligence in photography
Artificial intelligence is increasingly used in digital photography. One of the most used types of Artificial Intelligence in photography is deep learning. It is a type of artificial intelligence derived from machine learning where the machine can learn by itself (thanks to data models), unlike programming where it simply executes predetermined rules. In the next five to ten years, photography will be all about Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning.
Among the different applications of Artificial Intelligence in photo and time-lapse, students in photography and film production will benefit from:
- Interpretation of images: analysis of their content (objects and their location) more or less thorough (different levels of analysis), up to the interaction of these objects.
- Image generation with style transfer.
- Photo creation from drawings.
With more technological advancements in the future, Artificial Intelligence tools may start to replace needed technical skills for photography. Google Clips is an Artificial Intelligence-powered camera that can decide when the lighting or composition is aesthetically pleasing. This suggests that we are not long far from getting a totally automated photographer. Reviews of Google Clips haven’t been that good but the seed has been planted for sure. Also, with ever-evolving image-generation technology, businesses may be able to create their own images in the future, instead of hiring a professional photographer.
- Develop analytical skills to process, identify and automate object recognition in images.
- Develop intelligent systems to understand human emotions and make a replica of it.
