Moi University Diploma Courses

The diploma programmes within the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management aim at producing highly, but broadly inter-disciplinary oriented professionals in aspects of tourism, travel, hospitality and events management.  The diploma curricula have been prepared in line with the needs of the tourism, travel and hospitality sectors; and practitioners in the current dynamic and competitive global economies and cover all relevant disciplines of management.

As such, graduates of the diploma programs are expected to be competent in handling common tourism, travel, hospitality and events practices as well as becoming the forefront supervisors and managers who can advise on routine decision-making processes. The graduates would be in an advantageous position to find career opportunities in various sectors, particularly in the public, private and corporate sectors.

Diploma in Tourism Management (DTM)
Diploma in Sustainable Tourism and Wildlife Management (DST&WM)
Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management (DHRM)

Diploma in Air Travel Services Management (DASM)

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

To be admitted into the diploma programme, the applicant must fulfil academic requirements as prescribed by Moi University:

  • Pass with a minimum aggregate KCSE grade of C- or equivalent score in an examination recognized by the University Senate.
  • An O-level certificate with a minimum grade of Division III or equivalent plus evidence of relevant academic or professional training.
  • A-level qualification with a minimum of 1 principal pass or 3 subsidiaries with at least a D+ in KCSE or equivalent.
  • A certificate from a recognized/ accredited post-secondary institution after a full cycle of secondary education.
  • Any other qualification that may be defined by the Senate from time to time.
DURATION OF COURSE

The Diploma programme will run for FOUR (4) semesters

EXAMINATION

All rules and regulations governing Moi University Examinations shall apply. 

STUDENT ASSESSMENT

Continuous assessments shall constitute 20% of the final marks and the end-of-semester examinations 80%. Each course shall be graded out of a maximum of 100% marks assigned appropriate letter grades and classified as follows:

The pass mark in any course shall be 40%.

GRADUATION

To graduate, candidates are required to undertake a minimum of 68 units of examinable courses consisting of course work 60 units, industrial attachment 4 units and research project 4 units.
