Postgraduate Student Exchange Opportunity at the University of Padova, Italy

Meru University of Science & Technology (MUST) is a beneficiary of the Erasmus+ KA107 Student and Staff exchange program. It involves mobility of staff and postgraduate students between Meru University of Science & Technology (Kenya) and the University of Padova (Italy) for academic and research. The project is scheduled to run from the year 2021 to 2023.

This is to invite applications from Meru University of Science & Technology postgraduate students to carry out part of their research at the University of Padova. The studies undertaken during the mobility period will be recognized as per the signed Erasmus+ KA107 Inter-institutional agreement between the two institutions.

1.2 Eligibility

  1. Must have Bachelors degree in any of the specialization in Chemistry/ Industrial Chemistry/ Analytical Chemistry/ Materials Chemistry / Bachelor of Education Science (with chemistry as a major subject)/ Civil engineering/ Mechanical engineering/ Materials Science or other related areas.
  2. Must be a registered student for Masters Student at Meru University of Science & Technology.
  3. Must have completed the coursework for his/her master’s degree.

1.3 Funding

1.3.1 Travel Costs

The costs of travel to the University of Padova (Italy) during exchange program will be catered for by the scholarship. This will be based on the travel distance per participant [calculated using the distance calculator (https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/resources/distance-calculator_en) supported by the European Commission]:

100 – 499:              180 EUR per participant

500 – 1999 KM:      275 EUR per participant

2000 – 2999 KM:    360 EUR per participant

3000 – 3999 KM:    530 EUR per participant

4000 – 7999 KM:    820 EUR per participant

8000 KM or more: 1500 EUR per participant

1.3.2 Monthly Stipend

In addition, the successful postgraduate students visiting University of Padova will receive 850 Euro per month to cover their subsistence costs.

1.3.3 Duration of Mobility / Scholarship

The successful students will visit University of Padova for a period of six months.

1.4 Required Documents

  1. Certified copies of undergraduate academic transcripts and certificate
  2. Certified copies of Masters degree academic transcripts
  3. Two-page Curriculum Vitae
  4. Motivation letter
  5. Proposal
  6. Copy of the biometric passport(e-passport/ digital passport / East African Community format e-Passport)

1.5 Proposal Details

1.5.1 Scope

Applicants must submit a proposal on any of the broad topics: (i) Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (ii) Alkali Activated Materials/Geopolymers (iii) Concrete Admixtures (iv) Soil Stabilizers/Soil Cement (v) Bio-deterioration of Concrete (vi) Self-healing Concrete.

1.5.2 Proposal Format

The proposal should not exceed fifteen (15) pages in Times New Roman, font size 12, and spacing of 1.5. It must contain the following sections: (i) Title of the project (ii) Abstract (iii) Introduction/Background (iv)Problem Statement (v) Justification of the study (vi) Hypotheses (vii) General objective and specific objective(s) (viii) Justification of the study (ix) Literature review (x) Materials and Methods (xi) Data Analysis Statement (xii) Expected outputs and outcomes (xiii) References (xiv) Itemized budget (xv) Work plan  (xvi) Monitoring and Evaluation log-frame.

1.6 Application Procedure

Applicants are required to submit all the required documents listed in section 1.4 above in soft copy to: jmarangu@must.ac.ke. Further, applicants are required to indicate the contacts (email and telephone) for three referees in their C.V. Applications should be submitted by August 5th, 2021.
