The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, KICD is in charge of formulating curriculum designs and implementing them.
Besides this, the institute is expected to determine and provide curriculum support materials including set books for effective curriculum implementation at the school level.
The latest news on set books indicate that KICD has officially released a new list of set books to be used in all Kenyan Secondary Schools.
Set books for Kiswahili Fasihi and English Literature are changed after a four-year cycle.
They encompass both compulsory and elective or optional set books drawn from Africa and other foreign countries-European.

Nation reported the curriculum developer called the publishers whose entries won the tenders on Friday, June 4. In the new changes, Fathers of Nations, a novel by Paul B. Vitta has been chosen as the English Literature compulsory text.
The book published by Oxford University Press East Africa will replace Henry ole Kulet’s Blossoms of the Savannah.
Parliament of Owls published by the East African Educational Publishers was unveiled as an optional text replacing John Steinbeck’s The Pearl.

Samuels Wachira’s A Spider’s Web will be studied in TTCs. Mzigo wa Kichaa will be studied at Diploma levels.
In other news, the decades-old Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) through which thousands of Kenyan students have pursued to become teachers will soon be no more if a recent proposal by the government is adopted.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) now wants Kenyan universities to scrap off the B.Ed course as part of reforms intended to usher in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Students who wish to pursue a career in teaching will instead take regular arts or science degrees and a one-year post-graduate diploma in education to qualify for registration as teachers.
