Duma Works is recruiting a Regional Lead for one of its clients in Nairobi.

Generation is a global youth employment program that provides young adults the opportunity to build successful careers and change their life trajectories. In Kenya, Generation has successfully launched five training programs: Financial Services Sales, Retail and Restaurant Services, Distributed Sales, Customer Service Agents, and Sewing Machine Operations.

Generation Kenya has trained 12,000+ graduates to date, and in 2019 we’re targeting to train 6,705 additional graduates who will need to be mobilized, trained and placed into employment.

The Regional Lead will report to the Operations Manager and on dotted lines to the Head of Business Development. The Regional Coordinator will be responsible for end-to-end delivery of the programs in their region, including:

  • Mobilization of candidates,
  • Training of team members in Generation methodology,
  • Preparation of new training centers,
  • Quality assurance,
  • Managing relationships with a) employers during training and after placement, b) Stakeholders on the ground including county and government officials, c) Other Community based organizations
  • Post-graduation support of candidates and overall coordination of the program.

They will have direct supervisory responsibilities as the lead trainers for the centres report to this role.

Responsibilities

Stakeholder engagement & Business Development

  • Being the primary point of contact between Generation Kenya, students, and employers in that region
  • Identifies business opportunities by identifying new employers on the ground (discussions with potential paying employers can be referred back to central BD Ensuring that all regulatory requirements and funder demands are met at the center and student levels
  • Managing employer relations and accounts; Building trust and long-term relationships with employers by providing support, information and guidance; researching and recommending new opportunities
  • Create and maintain a strong network of connections in the employer community to leverage our services to ensure that all students in the centers within the region are placed

Program management

  • Overseeing the planning and execution of youth mobilization and screening to meet program targets, from supervising the use of different mobilization platforms (print, social media, community mobilizers), to ensuring quality execution of screening process (information sessions, literacy/numeracy tests, 1:1 interview and registration)
  • Scheduling and managing employer presentations for candidates, organizing employer interview days, and coordinating with employers once job placements have been made

Boot Camp / Classroom Support and Logistics

  • Preparing training centers by ensuring the readiness of all classroom materials (e.g. chairs, flip chart stands, boards), utilities (e.g. electricity, water), ensuring that branding material at the centers meet our requirements before the start of each program
  • Training/management of center staff – ensuring staff (coaches, teaching assistants) are prepared before a program begins, assisting them in solving problems, organizing weekly staff meetings, ensuring compliance with Generation’s monitoring tools and processes
  • Coordinating logistics of the day-to-day running of programs, including distribution of program schedule and training materials to instructors and students, support of technical exercises, supervision of the use of grading tools (scorecard and assistance tracker), etc.

Data tracking & management

  • Monitoring performance of delivery partner and students during boot-camp and after placement
  • Maintaining database with student information and program records before and after placement, ensuring candidate performance follow-up and maintaining contact with all alumni

Instructor Management

  • Take part in assessing the capability of instructors and their development including conducting performance reviews, weekly progress check-ins and creating development plans for instructors.
  • Ensure that centers are adequately staffed with instructors and if need be, take part in the hiring of instructors.
  • HR management of the instructors in their region including the taking of vacation/leave days, approval of claims and other HR matters

Skills/mindsets required

  • Bachelor’s degree / Qualification or experience related to the financial sales industry will be an added advantage
  • 3-5 years of direct supervisory management experience
  • Experience preparing youth for employment
  • Ability to lead interactions and meetings with employers, including negotiation of payment
  • Willing to travel around Kenya
  • Motivational fit, with a passion for the start-up environment, fast-changing priorities and achieving challenging goals
