Schools from Western Kenya and the larger Nyanza region have dominated the national rugby scene. From Bungoma High School, Kakamega High St Peters Mumias, and St Mary’s Yala, they have produced the best in Kenyan rugby.

Other schools also have contributed their fair share, with Upper Hill, Maseno School, and Mangu School being in the front queue as well.

Top rugby players in the country have come from these schools, with the likes of Humphrey Khayage, Lavin Asego, and even Steve Biko having shone in Western Kenya for different schools.

However, some schools have produced the best players in the country but are yet to shine in the nationwide school leagues.

Vihiga High School

Kenya’s greatest player ever Collins Injera came through the ranks of Vihiga High School, even though they have never won the National Secondary Schools rugby tournament. He rose to become the all-time leading try scorer in the World Sevens Series.
